King Kong himself might spend most of the game snoozing by the side of the reels, but King Kong Cash is a very busy game indeed. This slot is absolutely full of features.
Blueprint Gaming released King Kong Cash in 2017, thrilling players with five different bonus rounds as well as five random features that can trigger in the base game too. Plus your standard scatters and wilds on top.
It’s a medium volatility slot so there are frequent smaller wins along the way to keep you engaged, and the cartoon jungle setting feels alive and interesting to look at. It’s got a very light hearted feel, including the soundtrack which is filled with bongo drums.

Game Features

Let’s start with the basics: King Kong Cash has five reels, three rows, and 20 paylines with winning combinations running left to right.
Card symbols make up the lower end of the paytable, while a crocodile, a parrot, a tiger, a rhino, and the King Kong Cash logo make up the higher paying symbols. The Barrel wild can help create winning combinations, and King Kong himself serves as the scatter.
The game is advertised with an RTP of 95.79%, and as it is a medium volatility slot, there are plenty of smaller wins along the way to keep you engaged, rather than those extreme swings you see with higher volatility titles. A gentler experience you might say.
Sleepy Kong Base Game Features

Kong can interrupt a spin during the base game at random, and throw in one of the following features:
- Banana Cannon Wilds: A banana bomb adds wilds to the reels.
- Kong Respin: Wilds from the banana feature can stay in place for a respin.
- Golden Barrel Super Spin: Golden barrels appear and reveal the same symbol.
- King Kong Spin Streak: Winning symbols are held while the remaining positions respin, continuing until the win stops improving.
- Bonus Boost: Extra bonus symbols are added to the reels.
He can also fool you and start the process only to reveal a bomb, that gives you nothing. This gives the game loads of personality and make every spin more interesting.
How the Bonus Wheel Works

If you land three or more Kong scatter symbols in the base game, the King Kong Bonus wheel triggers.
This is that start of a bonus round, but exactly which bonus round you will experience is yet to be decided. First, the game spins the bonus wheel which will award you one of five bonus features.
In ascending order, these are:
- Barrel Blast
- King Kong Trail
- Empire Free Spins
- Golden Kong Free Spins
- Big Monkey Bonus
These are ranked by average payout, so Barrel Blast is theoretically the least valuable bonus round and Big Monkey Bonus is the most valuable.
You can also gamble whatever you get for a chance of something better, but if you do, you run the risk of being awarded a mystery amount instead of getting a different bonus feature.
Barrel Blast

Barrel Blast is a picking game.
You open barrels to reveal items like pineapples and bananas. Each item is worth a different size stake multiplier, and if you match 3 items, you get the associated multiplier. There are also stars which upgrade the value of all available multipliers.
You keep picking until you match 3 of any item, at which point the round ends. If you get three golden monkeys, you go straight to the Big Monkey Bonus instead.
King Kong Trail

In the King Kong Trail, you are helping Kong climb ladders and move along platforms with multiplier barrels along the way. Each barrel is worth at least 1x more than the last, starting at 1x and ending at 50x.
It’s a turn based game, where you simply have to pick from four barrels each turn. You will either reveal an ‘Advance X’ showing a number of spaces to advance, or a bomb, which ends the round. The more you advance, the higher your stake multiplier becomes.
If you are lucky, you can even trigger the Big Monkey Bonus after the 50x barrel.
Empire Free Spins

A three level free spins game.
You start at the bottom of the Empire State Building, with 10 free spins. The reels are the same, but the wild has a lot to do in this round too, and as you advance up the levels, they become more and more valuable:
- Level one: Wilds remain active for the rest of that level, moving to random positions between spins.
- Level two: When roaming wilds overlap in the same position, they award a win multiplier.
- Level three: Overlapping roaming wilds create an expanding wild covering an entire reel.
In order to get to the next level, you need to collect three golden monkeys before your free spins runs out. These are randomly allocated to symbols on the reels.
Every time you advance to the next level, 5 more free spins are also added to your tally. So you get more spins with better wilds the further you advance.
Golden Kong Free Spins

Golden Kong Free Spins expands the game to five reels and four rows with 40 paylines. This gives you more chances to win with your 10 free spins, but on top of that, any wilds that land are collected to be used at the end.
When your 10 free spins are up, you move into the Wild Spins part of the round. Now, all the wilds you collected during free spins are thrown back onto the reels for another spin. At the end of each spin, you have to pick from four barrels. If you reveal a golden monkey, you get another spin with all those wilds shuffling into different places, if you reveal a bomb, the round is over.
Big Monkey Bonus

This is where prizes of up to 1,000x your stake are possible.
A carousel of barrels spins around Kong, all with different multipliers on them from 10x up to 500x. When the carousel stops, whichever barrel is at the front has its multiplier added to your winnings.
Next, you have to pick one of the bunches of bananas at the side of the screen. It will either reveal a golden monkey or a bomb. A golden monkey means a re-spin which gives you another turn on the carousel and a chance to add even more to your winnings, while a bomb ends the round.
This can go on for a while if you are lucky.
Verdict
King Kong Cash is an action packed game and no mistake, and since there are so many different bonuses you’re unlikely to get bored of them. The medium volatility along with the huge variety in features makes this a slot that is built to entertain on every spin.
It feels like there is always something to hope for with King Kong Cash, whether in the base game or one of the bonus rounds. It’s incredibly layered but never feels complicated.
That doesn’t mean it can’t be frustrating. Getting the same bonus on the bonus wheel several times in a row can be annoying, and a bonus round that disappoints will still be an anti-climax, but the good thing is the next feature isn’t usually very far away.
